Free on the NHS if you are eligible, and available privately if you are not. NHS flu jabs are arranged through the NHS national booking service — for a private jab, give us a call. The appointment itself takes a few minutes and you do not need to see your GP first.
There are two routes, and which one you take depends on whether you qualify for a free NHS jab.
If you are 65 or over, pregnant, have a long-term health condition, or are a carer, your flu jab is free — but it is arranged through the NHS national booking service, not through this website.

Flu is not a heavy cold. It comes on quickly, it puts otherwise healthy adults in bed for a week, and for older people, pregnant women and anyone with a long-term condition it can turn into something considerably more serious.
The vaccine is reformulated every year to match the strains expected that season, which is why last year's jab doesn't cover you for this one. It takes around two weeks to take full effect, so having it in autumn — before flu starts circulating properly — is what gets the most out of it.
Getting vaccinated also protects the people around you. If you live with someone whose immune system is weakened, your jab is part of their protection too.
Adults qualify for a free NHS flu vaccination at the pharmacy if they fall into any of the groups below. Children aged 2 and 3 are covered separately, just below. Not sure? Ask us — checking costs nothing.
Everyone aged 65 and above is eligible, whether or not you have any other health conditions.
Including chronic respiratory disease such as COPD or asthma needing steroid treatment, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, neurological conditions, diabetes, a weakened immune system, problems with your spleen, a learning disability, or a BMI of 40 or above.
Recommended at any stage of pregnancy. It also passes protection to your baby for the first few months after birth.
Residents of long-stay residential or nursing care are eligible.
If you are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or you receive Carer's Allowance.
If you share a household with someone whose immune system is weakened, your vaccination helps protect them.
Available through your employer, or here at the pharmacy.
If your child was aged 2 or 3 on 31 August 2026, they can have their flu vaccine free on the NHS here at the pharmacy from 1 October 2026. It is a quick nasal spray, with no needle.
Children who were aged 2 or 3 on 31 August, the cut-off the NHS uses each season. It is free on the NHS.
A quick, painless spray up each nostril. It is over in seconds.
It takes about 10 to 14 days to give full protection, so earlier in the season is better.
Usually a runny nose or a smaller appetite, and they pass within a day or two.
If you do not fall into one of the NHS groups, you can still have the same vaccine privately. Popular with people who work in busy offices or schools, travel over winter, care for young grandchildren, or simply cannot afford a week off.
Book a slot online to skip the wait, or just come in — we'll fit you in whenever we can.
A couple of questions to confirm whether you qualify for the free NHS jab and that the vaccine is suitable for you.
Given by a trained pharmacist in our private consultation room. We'll record it and notify your GP so your record stays up to date.
Autumn or early winter, before flu starts circulating widely. It takes around two weeks to reach full effect. If you miss that window it is still worth having — flu season runs well into the new year.
Yes. The vaccine is reformulated each year to match the strains expected that season, and protection fades over time — so last year's jab won't cover you for this winter.
No. The adult vaccine doesn't contain live flu virus, so it can't cause flu. Some people get a sore arm or feel a bit off for a day or so, which is the immune system responding — not an infection.
The two are routinely given together where both are being offered. Tell us when you book so we can allow enough time — see our private COVID vaccination service.
Yes, and it's actively recommended at any stage of pregnancy. Flu carries higher risks in pregnancy, and the vaccine also passes some protection to your baby for their first few months.
