Your yellow fever certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. Please ensure you are vaccinated at least 10 days before entering a country that requires proof of vaccination.
Once valid, the certificate provides lifelong proof of vaccination.
Yellow fever is the one travel vaccine a pharmacy cannot simply decide to offer. Premises have to be formally designated and registered with NaTHNaC before they are permitted to hold the Stamaril vaccine or issue the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP). It is a regulated designation, not a marketing claim, and centres appear on a national directory.
A great many high-street pharmacies and national chains are not designated. They will happily book you in for your other travel vaccines, then send you somewhere else for this one — which means a second appointment, at a second clinic, often at short notice before a trip.
Caxton Pharmacy is a designated centre. You can have your yellow fever vaccination, collect your stamped certificate and get the rest of your travel vaccines in a single visit to one place in Bromley.

Everything you need to know about Yellow Fever vaccination
The yellow fever vaccination is £80 at Caxton Pharmacy, and that includes your pre-vaccination risk assessment, the vaccination itself and your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis. There is no separate certificate fee and no consultation charge on top.
At least 10 days before you arrive anywhere that requires the certificate, because that is when it becomes valid. Four to six weeks ahead is better, as it lets us schedule any other travel vaccines your trip needs around it.
Many countries in Africa and South America require proof of vaccination for entry, and many more require it only if you are arriving from or transiting through a risk country. We check your exact route, including airport connections, against the current NaTHNaC country records at your consultation.
Possibly, yes. This catches more travellers than anything else. A direct flight from London to India needs no certificate, but route the same trip through Nairobi or Addis Ababa and India may demand one. Tell us every stop on your itinerary, however brief, and we will check each leg.
One dose is all most people ever need, and since 11 July 2016 the certificate is valid for the lifetime of the person vaccinated. No country may demand a booster to renew it, and that applies retroactively to certificates issued decades ago.
Often yes, if your destination carries genuine risk, after a careful individual assessment. The vaccine is not given to over-60s travelling only to areas classed as low potential for exposure, because the balance of risk changes with age. It is a conversation, not a form.
It is not given to babies under six months, anyone with a thymus disorder or who has had their thymus removed, anyone with a significantly weakened immune system, or anyone who has had an anaphylactic reaction to a previous dose or to egg. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and well-controlled HIV need specialist assessment. Where vaccination is not appropriate we can discuss a Medical Letter of Exemption.
Most people have none or mild ones: a sore arm, headache, muscle aches or a low-grade fever in the first week or so, affecting roughly one to three in ten people. Serious reactions are rare and are precisely why the eligibility checks exist. We go through them honestly with you before you decide.
Contact the centre that vaccinated you first, as a designated centre keeps records and can usually issue a replacement. If that is not possible, re-vaccination with a new certificate is the practical answer for most people. Get in touch and we will help you work out the fastest safe route before you fly.
