Two questions decide most travellers’ yellow fever plans: what does it cost, and how late can I leave it? The second matters more than the first, because a certificate that is not yet valid is worthless at the border however much you paid for it. This guide covers both properly. For the full picture, from country lists to who should not have the vaccine, start with our complete yellow fever vaccine guide for Bromley.

What the yellow fever vaccine costs in Bromley
Yellow fever vaccination is a private travel service everywhere in the UK. At Caxton Pharmacy the vaccination is £80, and the price you are quoted is the price you pay: we confirm the full cost before anything goes ahead.
That figure buys considerably more than an injection:
- the full pre-vaccination risk assessment, using the UK’s standardised safety checklist, with a pharmacist who has your medical history in front of them
- the vaccination itself, where it is appropriate for you
- your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, issued on the spot and now valid for life
- route-specific advice for the rest of your trip: malaria tablets, other vaccinations, bite avoidance and timing
KEY POINT — this is a once-per-lifetime cost. Since 2016 the certificate never expires and boosters cannot be demanded at any border. Whatever you pay, you are buying protection and paperwork for every trip you will ever take, which is a different proposition from a vaccine you renew every few years.
Why prices vary between clinics, and what to check
Yellow fever prices differ across the UK, and the headline number does not always tell the whole story. Wherever you book, three questions are worth asking. Is the certificate included, or an extra charge? Is there a separate consultation fee on top of the vaccine price? And can they actually see you before your departure date, because a cheaper appointment three weeks after you fly is not cheap. We keep all three answers simple: assessment, vaccination and certificate in one visit, one price, with same-day and short-notice appointments often available.
One thing we will not do is walk you through competitors’ price lists; they change and they are theirs to publish. What we can promise is transparency on ours before you commit. Check availability and book, or call 020 8460 0377 and ask.
How long before travel do you need it?
The hard rule: at least 10 days before you arrive anywhere that demands the certificate, because that is when it becomes valid and when protection is reliably established. Around that fixed point, here is the realistic planning picture:
| Time before departure | Where you stand |
|---|---|
| 6+ weeks | Ideal. Yellow fever slots in cleanly alongside any other vaccines your trip needs, including courses like hepatitis B or rabies, and the four-week spacing rule with MMR for children. |
| 2–6 weeks | Comfortable for yellow fever itself. Other multi-dose vaccines may need accelerated schedules; we plan the order of jabs around what matters most. |
| 10–14 days | Workable. The certificate will just be valid in time; book immediately rather than at the weekend. |
| Under 10 days | The certificate cannot be valid for arrival. Talk to us anyway: depending on your route we can look at itinerary options, protection for later leg entry requirements, and everything else your trip needs. |
KEY POINT — the 10-day rule has no workaround. No clinic, however good, can make a certificate valid faster. The only lever you control is booking earlier, which is why we tell travellers to sort yellow fever the week they book flights, not the week they fly.
The cost of not having it
It is worth naming what the vaccine price is weighed against. Turned away at a border, you are paying for new flights and lost accommodation. Quarantined on arrival, you are losing days of a trip you already paid for. And unprotected in a genuine risk area, you are exposed to a disease with no cure, where the severe form kills 20 to 50 per cent of those who develop it. The maths rarely favours skipping the jab; where the vaccine is not suitable for you on medical grounds, the honest alternatives are covered in our main yellow fever guide, including exemption letters.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the yellow fever vaccine in Bromley?
£80 at Caxton Pharmacy, including the risk assessment, vaccination and your lifelong certificate. We confirm the total before anything goes ahead.
Is the certificate included in the price?
Yes. The £80 covers your pre-vaccination risk assessment, the vaccination itself and your lifelong ICVP certificate, issued on the day. There is no separate certificate fee and no consultation charge on top.
Will I ever have to pay for a booster?
For border purposes, never: the certificate is valid for life. A small clinical subset may be advised to have one further protective dose; that is assessed individually and applies to few travellers.
How late can I realistically leave it?
Ten days before arrival is the hard minimum for a valid certificate. Two weeks or more is comfortable; six weeks lets us plan your whole vaccination schedule properly.
I fly in a week and my destination requires the certificate. Is it hopeless?
Not necessarily hopeless, but the certificate cannot be valid in time for arrival. Contact us today: options depend on your exact route, and we will be honest about what is and is not achievable.
Can I get the yellow fever vaccine free anywhere?
No. Yellow fever vaccination is a private travel service throughout the UK and is only available at designated centres.
Do you do same-day yellow fever appointments?
Often, yes, subject to vaccine stock and clinic capacity. Remember the certificate still needs 10 days to become valid after the jab, so same-day helps most when you have booked promptly.
What else should I budget for my trip’s travel health?
Depending on the destination: anti-malarial tablets, other vaccinations such as typhoid or hepatitis A, and repellents or nets. Our complete yellow fever guide and a single consultation will map the whole picture so there are no surprises.
